Every year, thousands of travellers passing through AKL drop their unwanted currency into our collection globes, never imagining how far those coins might go. Together, they have helped create $120,000 in community support for South Auckland charities.

The Auckland Airport Twelve Days of Christmas initiative sees us act as a connector between traveller generosity and twelve local charities doing essential mahi, from supporting young parents and furnishing safe homes to restoring waterways, uplifting rangatahi and helping whānau through hardship.

Chosen by a panel of Auckland Airport staff, the twelve selected charities each receive a $10,000 grant to strengthen their impact at a time of year when demand for services is at its highest.

The grants celebrate the organisations working tirelessly across South Auckland and the travellers who make it possible, and are a reminder that even the smallest contribution can help create a thriving, connected community.

Along with the grants, each charity is featured in a paid partnership story with stuff.co.nz.

These grants are made possible thanks to the thousands of generous travellers who placed their unwanted currency into our collection globe moneyboxes dotted around our terminals this year. It’s small change that adds up to a big impact: ngā mihi nui to everyone who donated.
